Vizag billed the cleanest rail station

Secunderabad and Vizag railway stations under A1 category bagged top places in a survey on "Swachh Rail - Swachh Bharat" by the Ministry of Railways and a third-party audit agency. The survey has found that the cleanest railway station among the 75 busiest railway stations in the country was the Visakhapatnam railway station in Andhra Pradesh.

The stations were ranked on the basis of cleanliness of the toilets at the platforms, clean tracks and dustbins at the stations.

Two more stations in Telangana - Mancherial and Warangal - were among the 10 cleanest in this category.

Darbhanga in Bihar is the dirtiest among these major stations classified as A1.

He further added, there are few zones really worked out to keep their stations clean but Bhopal station fail to maintain the same.

Every passenger was asked to rate the cleanliness of stations objectively on 40 different cleanliness parameters presented in a questionnaire.

According to the ranking report, apart from the Bhubaneswar railway station, Puri railway station was ranked 37th among the 75 A1 category stations surveyed across the country.

Prabhu said that lot of NGO's, Students groups have come forward to clean and beautify their stations. Last year Jaipur was ranked 51st and it showed a marked improvement in the year. With objective of measuring passenger's fulfillment with sanitation at railway stations, survey covered 75 AI category stations and 332 A category stations.

As per a survey, the report of which was released by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu here on Wednesday, the Jammu railway station occupied the third spot, while the New Delhi station was ranked at 39 among the busiest stations. "Our Habibganj station is being prepared as World Class and facilities are being improved at Bhopal station", said I A Siddique, PRO Bhopal Railway.

Khamman was declared the second cleanest in A category (annual passenger revenue is between Rs 6 and 50 crore).

The stations which contribute more than Rs 50 crore a year in passenger revenue are considered to be A-1 stations.

All suburban stations are in C category, while all halts are in F category.

He was releasing the third survey on cleanliness.
