Storms pummel central United States, as tornadoes kill at least 2

Multiple people were trapped in homes after a tornado touched down south of Elk City.

Elk City Schools officials have announced that schools will be closed for students Wednesday because of the weather. The tornado swept into the mobile home p.

The storm knocked out telephone service into and out of the city.

In another post they wrote, "If you live in the area that was hit by the tornado you cannot go back to your residence at this time". Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald told KMSP-TV that when first responders arrived at the scene, they could hear the people crying for help in the rubble.

Several poultry barns at a turkey processing plant across the street were badly damaged, and turkeys could be seen wandering in the debris. Authorities say it appears he was fleeing his home when his vehicle was thrown several hundred feet.

A line of severe thunderstorms struck the central United States on Tuesday, leaving a trail of destruction from Texas to Wisconsin.

The region could be in for more potentially damaging storms.

In eastern Nebraska, winds damaged homes, farms and businesses and left thousands of people without electricity.
