Senate Intelligence Committee invites Comey to testify publicly

The House oversight committee said Wednesday that it will hold a May 24 hearing to investigate if Trump interfered in FBI probe, and that it has asked former FBI Director James Comey to testify.

The scheduled hearing comes after The New York Times published a report Tuesday claiming Comey wrote a memo about his conversation with President Trump.

It is most likely that Comey will testify before Congress about his meetings and interactions with Trump and also on the Moscow's meddling in U.S. Presidential election and the links of Trump campaign officials with Russian officials.

The letter came after the Senate Intelligence Committee made a similar request for Comey's memos.

The Senate Intelligence Committee's Republican chairman and Democratic vice chairman sent a letter to Comey "seeking his appearance before the [committee] in both open and closed sessions", the panel said in a statement on Wednesday. I hope Mr. Comey will accept the invitation to testify on Capitol Hill next week.

It had already been a week of tumult at the White House after Trump dismissed Comey and then discussed sensitive national security information about the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group with Sergey Lavrov, Russia's foreign minister.

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in".

Chaffetz, in his role as committee chairman, on Tuesday requested any "memoranda, notes, summaries and records referring or relating to any communications between Comey and the president".

Both the House and Select Senate Intelligence Committees are investigating Russian attempts to manipulate the outcome of the 2016 USA presidential election as well as allegations of collusion between members of the Trump campaign and high-ranking Russian officials.

In the memo Como reportedly agreed that Flynn is a "good guy" but the director did not address whether or not the investigation would continue.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain said the ongoing developments of the last week are reaching "Watergate size and scale."
