'It's Unimaginable': Duke University Student Vanishes After Party In Massachusetts

Duke student reported missing near Mass. home

Those in attendance were asked to wear blue and white for Duke University, or their jerseys if they played a sport with Doherty.

"We found a shirt and a sneaker", said Franklin Deputy Chief Jim Mill. "He is described as about 5'10" tall, with brown hair and eyes. Doherty ultimately chose to walk roughly a mile to his home.

Authorities enlisted dogs, boats, helicopters and drones to search the woods nearby his home for him.

His family, who live in Franklin, say Doherty was home for the summer and went out with friends Saturday night.

More than two days later, officials said they found clues at the edge of a swampy marsh. A post on the All Duke Facebook page requests students to "upvote" the link to the campaign on the social networking site in order increase its visibility, according to the Duke Chronicle. Other agencies, including state environmental police, have also joined in on trying to find the Franklin native.

Police are urging local residents to check outside their homes for Doherty, including sheds or detached buildings on their property. Doherty attends the Pratt School of Engineering and is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, the newspaper reported. They have since expanded the search efforts into the neighboring town of Bellingham.

The much-improved weather "is a big help", he added, because it's enabling the state police airwing "to be able to see deeper in the water".

In a statement to CBS Boston, Duke University said: "Our thoughts are with Michael and his family for a quick and positive outcome".
