New photo marks Princess Charlotte's second birthday

The photo shows Charlotte looking adorable in a yellow-knitted cardigan accented with little, blue, embroidered sheep around the collar.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's youngest will officially become a toddler when she turns two on 2 May. Prior to that, the Princess was photographed during a trip to Canada with her parents. For a two-year-old, Charlotte appears to be entirely self-possessed, just like her mom.

It's hard to believe that it's been two whole years since Britain's royal family welcomed their youngest member, HRH Princess Charlotte.

A new picture has been released of Princess Charlotte ahead of her second birthday this week.

Charlotte has grown so much in the past year.

A new photo of Princess Charlotte enjoys the countryside, Kate Middleton announced shortly before her second birthday. The little one is also guaranteed to hog attention when she plays bridesmaid at her aunt Pippa Middleton's wedding on May 20.

Charlotte has not made many public appearances - her first official job was during the royal tour of Canada late a year ago. They are especially important royal kids because they are the closest to the throne, but they have been relatively sheltered from public view by their careful parents, who have been living hours away from London in Norfolk. And while fans hadn't seen new pics of Charlotte since December, the royal family chose to release a new royal portrait of the 2-year-old one day ahead of her special day.

The princess, whose birthday is Tuesday, was named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana in tribute to both her late grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales, and her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince William, the first royal to undertake civilian employment as a helicopter pilot with the East Anglia Air Ambulance, will end his service soon. He will start school in September.
