Texas mother charged after video of abused toddler surfaces on Facebook

Texas mom accused of shooting video

Janelle Andrea Peterkin, 23, of Humble, appeared in court Monday on a charge of child endangerment in connection with the videotaped abuse, the Houston Chronicle reported. That led them to turn the case over to Harris County Precinct 4 constables, who interviewed Peterkin.

Peterkin sent disturbing videos to her ex showing her putting a bag over her 1-year-old son's face, according to investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Child Abuse unit.

Prosecutors said cops "saw video of the complainant in a auto seat and an adult hand was seen stuffing a plastic bag into the mouth of the complainant, who appeared to have difficulty breathing". She was released from jail after posting $15,000 bond, according to multiple reports. There is now a restraining order against Peterkin, who must remain 200 yards away from the boy. She is due in court in May.

Broadnax said Peterkin threatened to harm the child if they didn't respond. "His eyes were rolling to the back of the head".

"The video I sent to the police, she had a plastic bag, she was stuffing it down his throat", she said.

"In some, she was talking to him, saying, 'Blame your dad and his new girlfriend, '" Broadnax said.

Court documents said Peterkin failed to take the child to a doctor or hospital.

After being released on bail Monday, Peterkin had to find a new ride home.

"She was so nonchalant with an "OK, I don't care" attitude and she was saying it is her son, and that we did not do anything for the baby", Broadnax said.

Broadnax, who lives in Virginia, is Jaiden's aunt, and discovered the videos - 64 in all - on her brother's phone. In a photo, the prosecutor said, "officers saw. the complainant in a child vehicle sear with a plastic bag over his head, covering the face and tying it in a knot", according to KPRC 2.

Family reportedly did not know about the videos until Thursday, Broadnax said.

The baby's aunt, the father's sister, told Chron.com that Peterkin had made a total of 64 videos.
