Manchester City players need fear factor to perform, says Pep Guardiola

Kompany marked his latest return to the City defense by heading a 55th-minute opener before Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero also contributed goals.

Jack Stephens prevented City from doubling their lead when he blocked Silva's 65th-minute follow up attempt after Forster pushed Kevin De Bruyne's cross back into the line of fire.

City, meanwhile, continued to help their cause for a top-four finish, as the win moved them into third place above Liverpool on 64 points. For example the fans are always ideal, I love that, and you know the club is wonderful, the club supports everybody.

But despite failing to live up to his billing in his first season at Manchester City, Guardiola claims there is a sense of calm in England that he hasn't experienced before.

How would City's season have panned out had they had a fully fit Kompany playing regularly?

The Belgian broke the deadlock early in the second half when he headed past the statuesque Fraser Forster who will not want to see a replay of his effort.

Sane notched his ninth goal of the season following a tremendous display on the counter attack.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola misses the pressure related to training in the Bundesliga and LaLiga, though he adores English assistants.

"Manchester United have a game [Sunday] and another game in hand and still have to come to the Etihad", Guardiola added.

City face off against Arsenal on Sunday in the FA Cup semi-final and Sane will be keen to inflict more woe on the out-of-form Gunners after finding the net against them in every game so far this season.

"This result is so important for our qualification for the Champions League".

"Southampton will nearly certainly fall short of emulating last season's sixth-place finish but Puel's first season in charge has been one of promise, irritatingly undermined by a succession of injuries to key players". Southampton, meanwhile, sit safely in mid-table with 40 points from 31 games. With all the players, Gabriel Jesus for example, and Ilkay Gundogan, we would have been stronger.

The Manchester City manager believes there is much work to do if he is to replicate his past successes.
