Tom Brady Not Joining Patriots At White House

The Wednesday's ceremony at White House in Washington is expected to go on as planned, despite the news that the former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez hung himself in prison.

Though numerous Super Bowl champions also skipped the White House visit in past years (including Brady, who was not in attendance in 2015), the Patriots' earlier connections to Trump meant particular scrutiny this time around.

Although Brady skipped the event to attend to "family matters", several of his teammate were absent as part of a symbolic protest of the Trump administration.

On the day of the visit, Quarterback Tom Brady said he also would not be attending the White House, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported.

Not all the team members were on hand to accept personal congratulations from President Donald Trump.

The quarterback said he hoped the team could win another championship and visit the White House again soon, and wished his teammates well.

"It's distinct honor for us to celebrate what was unequivocally our sweetest championship with a very good friend and someone's who's mental toughness and strength I greatly admire", Kraft said.

Brady also didn't attend the Patriots' last visit to the White House in 2015 due to family commitments.

While he doesn't specify his reasons, many speculate that it's to spend time with his mother, who is in town and has been ill.

Most of the players for the New England Patriots were at the White House Wednesay to take a victory lap after their Super Bowl win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Team owner Bob Kraft is a longtime Trump friend.

Donald Trump will have to host the New England Patriots without his old chum after all.

Authorities say a former National Football League player was driving a truck that struck and killed his 3-year-daughter in the driveway of their suburban Phoenix home.

Brady and Trump seem to have a friendly, yet ambiguous relationship.

The president accepted gifts from Kraft and Belichick during the ceremony, a personalized No. 45 Patriots jersey and a team helmet matching the ones used during the Super Bowl.

Brady's wife, Gisele Bundchen, denied that either of them were Trump supporters.
