Sergio Garcia is the Masters Champion, Claiming his first Major Title

This time, they were accompanied by a smile.

It has always been clear that Sergio Garcia has a rare talent. Olazbal had been the last player to win here to achieve that feat on a Sunday. A decade ago, he stood over a six-foot putt on the 18th green at Carnoustie to win the Open Championship.

And then he shot 79-83 at Carnoustie and sobbed on his mother's shoulder on his way out.

Garcia himself had said, in a moment of self-pity, that he didn't have what it takes to win a major.

"It's been an wonderful week", Garcia said, "and I'm going to enjoy it for the rest of my life". I felt the calmness I've never felt on a major Sunday.

McIlroy needs a victory at Augusta National to join Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in having won all four major titles. On track for a closing birdie and a 1-under overall tally to stay within two strokes of 36-hole co-leaders Charley Hoffman and Sergio Garcia, McIlroy instead missed a short par putt.

He crouched in disbelief, both fists clenched and shaking, and he shouted above the loudest roar of the day. He shouted multiple times.

"Ser-gee-oh! Ser-gee-oh!" the delirious gallery chanted to Garcia. But winning at Augusta at the age of 37 shows he likely has a few more Cups in him as a player. But for the most part I'm not going to sit here and second-guess one or two shots. He has been tortured by the golf gods more times than we can count - many times of his own doing - but to see him persevere and continue to fight and work for that first major is special.

It was a turn of events that reflected a new air of tranquillity about the former British Boys' and British Amateur champion. The eagle 3 he then made at the 15th, where an 8-iron from 189 yards hit the flag, was simply breathtaking.

Spieth stopped each time the huge gallery shouted while Garcia and Rose putted out.

A year later, Harrington rallied from three down to Garcia on the back nine and beat him at Oakland Hills in the PGA Championship.

Garcia's personal website lists endorsement deals with several well-known companies, including Adidas, TaylorMade, Credit Suisse and BMW.

Losing hurt, and it reached a point where Garcia acted as though he no longer cared. And from that calm emerged the grit that Garcia had lacked.

So, while cameras and mics recorded his every word and movement as he and caddie Michael Geller discussed how to approach his shot from the pine straw on the par-5 13th during Sunday's final round of the first Masters since the death of Arnold Palmer, it should have been no surprise to hear this exchange. But it's happened. Now I don't know if I'll be the best player to have only won one major. He missed and had to go into a playoff.

Thanks to an innovative graphic application process, Ping have been able to unveil two visually striking PLD2 putters, the Camo Ketsch Realtree Xtra, and the Camo Ketsch Muddy Girl.

It ebbed and flowed, it was similar in so many ways to the Open Championship finale involving Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson a year ago. There is gray in his goatee.

My most honest congratulations to @TheSergioGarcia for that well deserved Green Jacket.

It looked as though it belonged there all along.
