After the United States dominated Puerto Rico with an 8-0 win on Wednesday, Jones said the USA team was motivated by the Puerto Rican players planning a celebration and having championship T-shirts made before the game was even played.

Archer was on schedule to pitch Wednesday night, but Team USA officials told him he wasn't needed.

The World Baseball Classic was a good opportunity for a number of players to show their national pride and support.

"There were no crimes, there were no assassinations back home while we were playing in this classic", Correa said.

"Adam Jones.is talking about things he doesn't know about", Molina told ESPN's Marly Rivera. We even heard a flight was made for them for that parade because they said they were going to win.

They did indeed. And it started with Stroman, who pitched six scoreless innings and didn't give up a hit until the seventh as the Toronto Blue Jays star earned MVP honors.

Christian Yelich came to the plate and lined one up the middle to make it 3-0. He was relieved by J.C. Romero, a lefthander who last played in Major League Baseball in 2012. It reached the championship game in 2013 before losing to the Dominican Republic.
