BSP leader Mohammad Shami shot dead

A BSP leader was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad hours after Yogi Adityanath was sworn-in as the Chief Minister

The action came on the day Yogi Adityanath took oath as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

In the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Shami had contested against six times victor from the Kunda constituency Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya. The protesters have also demanded adequate security to be given to Mr Shami's family.

BSP leader Shami was returning home when the assailants opened fire at him.

Shami, the five-time president of the Mauaima block, was allegedly involved in a number of criminal cases - including cases relating to heinous offences like murder and dacoity, the SSP said.

Shami, former Samajwadi Party leader with a tainted past has joined BSP just before the UP Assembly Election. Police have initiated investigation into the matter.

"Before when such incidents took place during the Samajwadi party, the BJP dubbed administration as "Gundaraj". After the incident, locals and supporters of Shami reportedly held a protest. "Now their government is now in power and public can see the results"- Naresh.
