Beauty And The Beast May Break Box Office Records!

With tracking now over $60 mil for Friday (including $16.5 mil in Thursday preview screenings), the Emma Watson-led retelling is looking at somewhere between $165 and $170 MILLION for the weekend! The anticipated release will post the largest opening of 2017 so far this weekend, topping Logan's $88 million.

Last year's Batman v Superman now holds the record for March with $166 mil, so breaking that could be a real possibility!

It's also expected to break the record for the highest-grossing PG-rated film, likely unseating "Finding Dory", as well as the biggest March opening of all time.

"Beauty and the Beast" is rolling up its sleeves for fights with "Batman v Superman" and "Harry Potter".

"With the expected monster opening of Beauty and the Beast and the excitement that has surrounded the film, they are already considering a sequel to be released around 2019 or 2020", said a source. You can view all our previous Beauty and the Beast coverage by clicking here.

Beauty and the Beast offers a live-action re-telling of the studio's animated classic, refashioning the characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience and staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs.

Given the recent string of live-action Disney remakes fronted by female stars, insiders are projecting Watson's profits in relation to Angelina Jolie's earnings in 2014's "Maleficent, which drew an impressive $759 million at the global box office". Beauty and the Beast is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, handsome and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle.

The original animated Beauty and the Beast (1991) had three direct-to-video instalments.
