Andy Murray withdraws from Miami Masters due to elbow injury

Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Miami Open after suffering an injury to his elbow

Djokovic, who was knocked out at Indian Wells in the second round by Nick Kyrgios, had reportedly been struggling with an elbow injury.

No. 1-ranked Andy Murray withdrew from the Miami Open on Saturday because of a right elbow injury. It's the first time the part-time Miami resident will miss the event. "Sadly, I'm injured and won't be able to compete".

"I have some very disappointing news to share with you regarding the Miami Open tournament", Djokovic said Sunday in a statement.

"Believe me, it is as shocking to me, as it is to you". I truly love playing in Miami.

World No.2 Djokovic was the defending champion in the men's singles category.

As a result of his withdrawal, Djokovic - who has won five out of the last six Miami Open titles - will remain second in the world rankings as he will lose the points he earned from winning the event past year.

'The focus now is getting ready for the clay-court season, ' says the world number one. Djokovic has taken the title for five of the last six years, including the last three editions.

The 29-year-old has won the Miami Open twice, in 2009 and 2013, as well as finishing as a runner-up on two occasions, in 2012 and 2015, losing both of those deciders to Novak Djokovic.
