Local law enforcement to have additional patrols for St. Patrick's Day

"They are all identified as high-incidence roadways for DUI-related crashes, so if you see law enforcement on a particular roadway, they're there because that is an unsafe road", Zortman said.

Additionally, all police, sheriff deputies and the California Highway Patrol will be on heightened alert throughout the holiday weekend for impaired drivers. Additional troopers will also be assigned.

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety will be conducting three DUI checkpoints, including one on Route 1 in Rehoboth.

They say buzzed driving is drunk driving.

The period not only includes St. Patrick's Day but the NCAA basketball tournaments and spring break.

If you have been drinking, call a taxi, sober friend or family member, or use public transportation or a local rideshare program.

MSP Superintendent Colonel William M. Pallozzi says if alcohol is part of someone's night, driving shouldn't be. "Help us make zero fatalities a reality in IL".

Last year, troopers across Maryland arrested 153 drunken drivers, according to the release. Both Maryland and DE law says driving with a blood alcohol content of.08 is evidence of intoxication and is illegal. A driver under the age of 21, with any measurable alcohol in their system, is in violation of alcohol laws in Maryland.

Make sure all guests designate a sober driver in advance or help arrange ride-sharing with other sober drivers.

The city will also put up signs reminding residents to not drink and drive. If someone you know is impaired by alcohol or drugs, do not let them get behind the wheel and help them find a sober ride home. Serve lots of food and be sure to include plenty of non-alcoholic beverages at the party.

Keep phone numbers for cab companies handy, and take the keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving drunk.
