Highlights: Marlon Vera Stops Brad Pickett In "One Punch'" Final Fight

Video Pickett and his dog Bonnie face off against Vera ahead of UFC London

The bad news is that it took a swift kick upside his head to prove it was the right one.

UFC Fight Night 107 takes place on Saturday, March 18 from The 02 in London, England with Jimi Manuwa and Corey Anderson headlining.

And at least initially, everything was going swimmingly. Though Pickett won the first two rounds of the fight, and seemed to be in control heading into the third, his retirement fight was ultimately spoiled by a handsome, late-fight head-kick from the young Vera.

"One Punch" walks away from the Octagon as a favourite of media members, of fans, of matchmakers, of UFC president Dana White and he deserves the flawless send-off when he takes to the mat to put the finishing touches on his professional record.

He said: "I'm so thankful to the UFC for giving me this platform". So it's definitely the right decision and obviously it's not the fairy tale ending that myself and probably everybody else wanted. Vera looked a different man in the third round, firing off on all pistons which eventually led a head kick which knocked out the hometown favorite in his last hurrah.

The 24-year-old stepped up on a weeks notice to fight Pickett and was on the back foot for much of the fight. "I live by the sword, die by the sword". "When I saw Briones pulled out the first time, I called my management and said I wanted to fight the big name".

" ... I did have some trouble taking him down when I went for a takedown, but I could have just taken him down and laid on him and made it boring".

A crestfallen Pickett added: "To be honest, tonight sums it up for me".
