A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was flown to hospital Friday after getting struck by a vehicle along a busy east-west highway.

The trooper was standing outside his patrol auto on Florida State Road 836 around 9:30 a.m. when he was hit by the vehicle, according to Lt. Yosdany Veloz of the Florida Highway Patrol.

The trooper has serious injuries.

Friends and family rallied around the injured trooper, launching an online fund raising effort on the website, GoFundMe.com, which had raised more than $28,400 one day after it was launched.
