Director Confirms No Songs in Disney's Live-Action MULAN

Emma Watson will be very rich after Beauty And The Beast's worldwide box office haul

"(Sources close to production say that, unlike Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast, Mulan is not expected to prominently feature songs, though that could change.)" It would be an interesting choice to do a non-musical version of this film, but the historical figure would certainly give Disney a lot more to work with. "It's a big, girly martial arts epic", Caro said. The film is in the final stages of pre-production, and that's enough for Caro to know what kind of remake we're looking at, and fans might be disappointed to hear that the original songs from the animated film are not part of the plan.

While we speculate on that let's listen to this classic once more before it gets upstaged. The film is supposed to start shooting in China this spring, though we have no idea who is starring in the movie yet.

Filming hasn't begun, so Caro can't/won't get into real details just yet. "Mulan is clearly an empowered-female story", said Bailey, "but we can also do something new in this reimagining, make it a little more muscular, stronger, with touch of Ridley Scott". And I can't wait. Yes, you read that right - it will be Mulan without "Reflection". For Maleficent, they only included a cover of that film's signature song "Once Upon A Dream" by Lana Del Rey in the closing credits, but no one in the film burst out into song.

Although, with the movie bringing in £161 million at the box office Disney probably don't have too much to worry about. The Jungle Book only incorporated a couple songs into the movie, including "Bare Necessities" and a different version of King Louie's song "I Wanna Be Like You".

Mulan is set to hit theaters on November 2, 2018.

I'm sure Mulan would be better off for not having musical numbers - hell, I'm of the mind that they should get rid of Mushu entirely and replace him with that chicken-chasing dog.
