Jayalalithaa death: Panneerselvam launches state wide hunger strike, demands CBI probe

Jayalalithaa clearly took an adversarial position vis-a-vis anyone who wrote about her health

The show of strength came two days after the government released a "treatment summary" describing how doctors had battled in vain to save Jayalalithaa, who died on December 5 previous year after 75 days in a Chennai hospital.

The Tamil Nadu government on March 6 made public the discharge summary of Jayalalithaa and said that she got the best medical treatment.

As a caretaker, Panneerselvam had announced judicial inquiry into the death of Jayalalithaa.

A team of AIADMK MPs backing OPS have also submitted a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, calling for an investigation into the "mysterious" death of Jayalalithaa.

Besides Panneerselvam, former ministers Pandiarajan and Ponnaiyan and Rajya Sabha MP V Maithreyan led party cadres in observing the fast across Tamil Nadu.

"As her residence had a mini ICU-like set-up, Amma used to make use of it".

They also sought a probe into the incidents that occurred at Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence on September 22 before she was admitted to the hospital. "The first spark of doubt comes there, especially when she had a hospital-like set-up at her own residence", Dr. Maitreyan was quoted by the Finacial Express.

While Panneerselvam is participating in the fast from Chennai, other leaders and supporters of the former chief minister's faction are protesting in all the district headquarters in Tamil Nadu.
