Warner Robins man falls from cruise ship, US Coast Guard searching

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a man who was reportedly seen going overboard from a cruise ship near the Bahamas.

The overboard occurred on Monday morning while the Fantasy-class vessel was around 15 miles southwest of Abaco, Bahamas at sea.

The missing passenger is Kevin Wellons, 24, of Warner Robins, Georgia.

After looking at surveillance video, authorities believe the man went overboard around 2:45 a.m. At time of the incident, the ship was approximately 14 nautical miles northeast of Great Harbor Cay in the Bahamas.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater and an Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew were deployed for the search. US Coast Guard spokesman Ryan Dickinson said the delay had to do with the life-saving equipment on board, not the ship's engine. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this hard time". The ship is scheduled to arrive back in Jacksonville on February 16.

In a statement to Times-Union news partner First Coast News, Carnival wrote, "Carnival's CareTeam is providing support to the missing guest's family".
