Federal authorities have arrested the widow of Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen in connection with their investigation into the June mass shooting, FBI spokesman Prentice Danner said Monday.

Noor Salman was arrested in Rodeo, California, where she has been living, according to reports, and is due to appear in federal court in San Francisco on January 17.

Attorneys for Salman did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment. "I don't condone what he has done". She is expected to be returned to Central Florida to face the charges. It was almost three hours after the initial shooting began in the club that the Orlando police SWAT team were able to stop the gunman, killing him during a shootout. According to officials, her story's been inconsistent; and now apparently they believe they've learned enough to charge her with abetting the horrific crime. But investigators say she gave conflicting details of what she knew about the attack before it took place.

She told the New York Times that Mateen was abusive toward her and she was afraid to leave him because she didn't want him to get custody of their son, who was 3 years old at the time. "He has hurt a lot of people", she said.

Prior to the attack on Pulse, a handful of other USA gay bars had been targeted, including Neighbours, a popular gay nightclub in Seattle. Her husband was killed during last year's massacre in a shootout with police.

Following the Pulse nightclub shooting in June, Salman virtually disappeared from the public eye and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. They were married in Hercules, in Contra Costa County, Calif., on September 29, 2011.

He was eventually killed in a shoot-out with local police.

She claimed that she did not know about Mateen's plans to commit mass murder and that she believed he was out with a friend on the night of the attack.
