Real Madrid loan Martin Odegaard to Heerenveen

Heerenven confirm Odegaard loan deal

Martin Odegaard has pledged to "prove what he can do" after joining Dutch side Heerenveen on loan from Real Madrid until June 2018.

After only two first-team appearances in two years, Odegaard will benefit from regular action against top division professionals. There's room to grow here.

Despite being linked to a number of Premier League clubs in the summer, including West Ham and Liverpool, Odegaard remained at Madrid, and will now join Heerenveen until next summer.

Per Carlos Forjanes in AS, it has always been expected that the 18-year-old would spend some time away from Real, with the Bundesliga previously seen as the best place for him to thrive.

The player will be presented at the Eredivisie side on Tuesday. However, he also had his opportunities with the first team, playing this year in Copa del Rey against Cultural Leonesa, for instance. "I'm very excited", he said.

"I am very happy to be here at Heerenveen". I want to develop and that is the reason I am here. Real Madrid eventually won the race for his signature, and Odegaard has been attempting to adapt to life at the Bernabeu ever since.

"They told me a lot about the club, what they expected of me".

The winger will have the opportunity to shine with Heerenveen, now situated in the fourth position of the Dutch League. "Real Madrid is the best club in the world but they have the best players there and that is why I made a decision to come here", he added.
