Dolphins' Jay Ajayi named to Pro Bowl

EAST RUTHERFORD NJ- DECEMBER 17 Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi warms up prior to the National Football League game between the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon that wide receiver Jarvis Landry and running back Jay Ajayi have been selected as alternates to the Pro Bowl.

Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh were already headed to the NFL's All-Star Game for their impressive defensive seasons. Ajayi recorded three 200-yard rushing performances during the season, becoming the fourth player in league history to accomplish that feat.

The 24-year-old put up 94 receptions, which tied for the seventh most in the National Football League, for a 10th-ranked 1,136 yards and four touchdowns. His three 200-yard games ranked No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 on Miami's single-game rushing chart. This will be the second Pro Bowl of Landry's career after he was also named to the team after the 2015 season. In his second season as a professional running back, Ajayi made 12 starts for the Dolphins following an early season low usage rate; he received 18 combined carries during the first four weeks of the season - each game after, he received at least 12 per contest. Ajayi posted a 1,085 yard improvement from the 2015 season, the largest year-over-year gain in the league in 2016.

This is the second time in team history Miami had a 1,000-yard runner and 1,000-yard receiver in the seam year and the sixth time in team history both a running back and a wide receiver were selected to the Pro Bowl in the same season. Ajayi is the first Dolphins running back to make the Pro-Bowl since Ronnie Brown in 2008. The other five times it happened, the selections were Paul Warfield and Larry Csonka each season from 1970 to 1974.

The Pro-Bowl will be played for the first time in Orlando, Fl a week after the Super Bowl.
