Trump Tower briefly evacuated over stray bag of toys

Trump tower in New York

A spokesman for the NY mayor Bill de Blasio has jokingly suggested Donald Trump's team pick up the bill for the policing cost of evacuating Trump Tower after a suspect package was found in the lobby.

WABC reported that the backpack that prompted the partial evacuation was full of children's toys.

A NYPD spokesman tweeted "all clear at Trump Tower" shortly after news of the incident broke. "Thanks NYPD", said Sean Spicer, Trump's incoming press secretary and communications director, on Twitter.

New York Police have officially given the "all clear".

President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday appointed an experienced hand from the George W. Bush era to his national security circle and a figure from the Trump Organization to make worldwide deals. "Police were shouting and telling people to leave".

Police receive about 42 reports every day of so-called suspicious packages, though that number can surge depending on current events.

Trump Tower is a 58-story skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan on Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th streets.

Trump was not in Trump Tower at the time of the evacuation.
