Suspect Gary Holmes arrested in death of Arkansas 3-year-old

An Arkansas man has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of a 3-year-old boy who was fatally shot through the window of his family's auto in an alleged road rage incident on Saturday, reports say.

A harrowing 911 call revealed Ms King-Macon screaming: "I was at the stop sign and the guy blew the horn at me, and I blew it back".

Gary Holmes, 33, surrendered to police in Little Rock on Thursday in connection with the death of toddler Acen King, Fox reports.

While driving in the rain on Saturday, Holmes allegedly got out of his auto and fired his gun at the vehicle in front of him, which was stopped at a stop sign.

Holmes turned himself in after U.S. Marshals and Little Rock police worked with his family to get him to surrender, KTHV reported.

The young child was immediately rushed to the hospital after being struck by the bullets and died shortly after.

Holmes has been charged with capital murder and two counts of terroristic acts as a result of the incident, NBC News reports.

King-Macon was unaware that her grandson had been hit and continued driving for 10 miles to a J. C. Penney. "He shot at the vehicle!"

Authorities had offered a $40,000 (£32,600) reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

"When they got to Penny's, she realized the child had been shot", McClanahan says.

The other driver honked his horn, and King-Macon honked back, the police report said.

Then, police said, the man got out of his black Chevrolet Impala and fired into her auto.

Police Lt Steve McClanahan has said investigators believe the boy and his grandmother "were completely innocent" and have no relationship with the shooter.

Following the suspect's arrest, Little Rock Police Chief Kenton Buckner expressed his anguish over the toddler's death, Arkansas Online reported.
