Fenerbahce plane hit by bird on way to Europa League tie

Former Manchester United star Robin van Persie is relishing a return to Old Trafford this week with Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

"It's been nice to have a little break and to rest my groin but I always want to play".

Chris Smalling believes Manchester United's performance in the 0-0 draw against Liverpool showed they are contenders to win the Premier League title.

That delayed the Turkish club's pre-match press conference and prevented the team from training on the Old Trafford pitch on Wednesday evening, but Van Persie said of the episode: "Everything is okay". I just have to try and do my job for the team, and wait for my chance.

Manchester United host Fenerbahce in the Europa League in midweek and face Chelsea on the weekend.

Chris Smalling has said he is confident that Manchester United can establish themselves as a Premier League title threat over the coming games.

In fact, Van Persie has already returned "home" given that one of the other teams in Group A is Feyenoord, the Dutch club where Van Persie started his professional career back in 2001.

Shaw, who missed the vast majority of last season with a broken leg, added: "I think I've been unlucky because this injury's got nothing to do with my leg".

Fenerbahce vice president, Ozan Balaban, later told Fenerbahce.org that all the players and officials on board were fine and that team morale remained high despite the unexpected stopover. I am looking forward to facing him on Thursday.

"It will be tough for us". I hate missing matches but in football this is what happens - sometimes you get injured and you've got to sit out for a bit.
