Clinton blasts Trump's comments on military generals, Putin

When Lauer did eventually ask Clinton more pressing questions, he repeatedly interrupted her, at one point telling her to respond to an audience member's question about deploying USA troops-the most grave and consequential decision an American president can make-"as briefly as you can".

"I'll let you all ponder that", she said, before noting that she thought a tweet from Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus criticizing her for not smiling during Wednesday's forum demonstrated the unseriousness of the GOP nominee's campaign.

Donald Trump defended his admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin at a forum Wednesday focused on national security issues, even suggesting that Putin is more worthy of his praise than President Obama. When Lauer brought up Trump's admiration for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russian Federation, noting that Putin had invaded Ukraine and was suspected of hacking Democratic emails, Trump refused to say a negative word about him.

When Lauer put forward Trump's statement that he had more knowledge of how to beat ISIS than the generals, he described US generals as "reduced to rubble" under Obama and presented the often-repeated but ultimately ludicrous "take the oil" plan as policy.

While Trump has often complained that US forces are not large enough or well-equipped, he's also said that he'd save money by cutting waste and ensuring that contractors aren't getting sweetheart deals due to their connections or lobbying efforts.

The national security debate came as Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson drew attention for a foreign policy flub. "Her claim that no lives were lost in Libya was an insult to the memory of the four courageous Americans who died in Benghazi", spokesman Jason Miller said in a statement.

To say it wasn't television news' finest hour would be an understatement. He says it leaves too much of Iran's nuclear program intact and will pave the way for the Islamic Republic to develop the capability to make a nuclear bomb in the coming years.

Asked about a coughing fit in Cleveland, Clinton said she suffered from seasonal allergies and had increased her dosage of antihistamines. As the matriarch of the Clinton crime family, she is clearly the most corrupt, most unfit person in the history of the nation to be a nominee for president.

Trump has gained ground in Florida, Ohio, Maine, Wisconsin, and MI since the conventions, while Clinton has gained ground in Georgia, Nevada, New Mexico.

ISIS, or the Islamic State, as this brutal jihadist group is known, is not even the first, second, third or fourth most serious threat to the United States despite what Mr. Trump shouts from the stump with abandon. Then on Tuesday night he said he'll give the generals 30 days to come up with a plan once he takes office.

Clinton, once again, struggled to put the best face on her use of a private email account and computer server to handle the sensitive matters of the State Department. "I do not believe it is my job to be a truth squad", Wallace replied, explaining that a debate is very different than a Sunday show. The president is in Laos and he is really blasting Donald Trump.

- The reviews are in, and Wednesday night's biggest loser was Matt Lauer. If you're thinking about what's next or how little time there is to get through this answer, you're not going to hear Trump tell a lie.

With just two months until Election Day, national security has emerged as a centerpiece issue in the White House race.

That's far higher than in the last several elections, when fewer than 1 in 10 voters were still up in the air at this point, and reflects the distaste that large numbers of voters have for both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

But, in the heat of the peppering of questions, both candidates did well.
