039;ALF' Star Michu Meszaros Dead at 76

Mihaly "Michu" Meszaros, the 33-inch-tall actor and former circus star who played the title role in the 1980s sitcom "ALF," has died, his manager told ABC News today.

He was discovered unresponsive at his home over a week ago and hospitalized in Los Angeles.

The Hungary native got his start in the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in the '70s, later finding USA fame and eventually becoming friends with Michael Jackson.

Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, in addition to the ultimate performer, Michael Jackson, who would become close friends with Meszaros, watched his performances.

Across ALF's four seasons, Meszaros - who stood at 33 inches tall - suited up in a special ALF costume to help NBC to bring the character to life in scenes, which required the character's entire body be seen on screen. He wore the costume for action shots, while puppeteer Paul Fusco provided the voice.

Alf aired from 1986 to 1990.

At 2-foot-9, Meszaros was known unofficially as the smallest man on Earth.
